For a relatively inexpensive device, the Radio comes packed with features. I can listen to Pandora or Last.fm, choose from among all the BBC's radio stations or use the Listen Again service to catch up on older programs, stream music from every computer in the house, play my iPod through the radio, and more. Unlike other similar devices, the Radio plays multiple formats: AAC, Windows Media, FLAC, etc. There are a number of options for adding radio stations, and though six presets is a little skimpy, you can also add stations as favorites for quick access. Sound quality probably wouldn't satisfy a serious audiophile, but it's very good indeed for a unit of this size and specs.



Initial setup was extremely simple and intuitive, and the radio had no trouble finding my network. It's not perfect; it does lose connectivity every once in a while, but a restart always resolves this. Also, it will occasionally take a few tries to get it to switch from one server to another, but this is not a frequent enough problem to keep me from liking the device.



The interface is a little clunky to navigate--something I've found to be true of all Internet radios/music players--but it's very attractive and can be customized. The device itself also looks good, which isn't a major consideration but is a nice bonus. It's small enough to fit comfortably even on my cluttered nightstand. The big dial that controls most of the functions isn't ideal--it's easy to turn it while you're attempting to press it to make a selection, so that you inadvertently select the wrong thing. You do eventually get used to it, but it can be a little frustrating till you do.



My biggest complaint about the device is the alarm clock function. Unless you want to wake up to a song or radio broadcast (which doesn't work for me--I need something more aggressive to wake me up), there are no good options for the alarm sound--everything is annoying synthesized beeps and boops, or even more annoying recorded sounds, like the one that sounds like a car alarm. To get the radio to snooze after the alarm goes off, you have to turn the control and make sure you select "snooze" instead of "turn off alarm," which isn't easy for me when I've just woken up and don't have my glasses on. (On my old Roku Soundbridge radio, which I bought this unit to replace, all I had to do was hit the big snooze button on the top of the radio.) Worse, the most recent firmware update did something that made the alarm unreliable, and now it simply fails to go off sometimes. Fortunately, plain old alarm clocks are cheap, and I've started using one again so that I don't have to rely on the Squeezebox. That's a little disappointing, but the Radio is obviously much more than an alarm clock, and since it does so many other things so well, I don't mind using older technology to help me wake up. Overall, this is a terrific little gadget at a fair price.

Great receiver for the price by neel
I am a past owner of an Onkyo purchased more than 10 years ago. That receiver worked great until multiple moves must have shorted something. This one is easy to use, simple connections and easy to understand. I am still working on trying to get the zone two speakers to work. Haven't figured it out yet but haven't had to even look at the manual so far. I am not a very tech savvy person and this was not difficult at all as far as connections and set ups go. Top quality receiver for the price. I am glad Amazon stocks such products and am very happy with the Amazon free shipping and service. Deliveries are always as promised and return mailing slips are always included. You cannot go wrong with buying from Amazon.

I really don't know much about stereo equiptment. I do know that the subwoofer that came with my system died, so I purchased this as a replacement. This is MUCH more powerful than the one I previously owned. It can shake the house. So, I'd say if you are in need, go for this one. Ya just can't beat this price! (PS, I do not use this with a home theater system, just audio.)

All I could ask for for HD Audio by Christopher C
This package is great. The speakers and subwooffer are very slick and clean. The sub is a wood-like material and looks very nice. The speakers are solid plastic, and are sturdy enough. The receiver has some sharp edges, but it is also very slick looking.



The receiver has 3 HDMI 1.4 inputs which make setting up your players (games, cable box, blu-ray) super simple. If you have an HDMI 1.4 cable and don't use a cable box, you can even return audio from your television to the receiver with the ARC (audio return channel), which is pretty nifty. The onscreen menu is great and very useful. All the newest HD audio codecs are decoded perfectly; no setup required. A quick thing to note however, if your Blu-ray player is decoding the audio, the receiver may display Dolby Dig or DTS instead of TrueHD and Master-HD respectively. You will have to change the setting on your blu-ray player if you want the receiver to decode it (personal preference). It also supports HDMI-thru, which means you can use the HDMI ports while the receiver is off. This means blu ray or game while using the tv speakers if you want. Very cool.



The speakers are great. The sub-woofer is PASSIVE but that is not a bad thing. With the EX BASS setting, it shakes my windows on the default settings! It is a beast. The speakers are clear and responsive. Sounds better than anything I have had before. There are also TONS of sound options (dynamic volume, dynamic eq, etc.) to play with, along with different room settings. I could list these for days.



The setup did take me a while, mostly because there are so many settings to understand, and this was my first audio system; but in retrospect, it wasn't hard at all. The manual is well written and clear. The remote is also good, but it is not universal (bummer). I now have three remotes and an xbox controller that all must be used. I wish it was programmable.



The speaker wire is standard, and could be upgraded to a higher gauge if you wish. The rear speakers didn't have enough wire for me personally (about 25-30ft), but should work for a smaller, square room. I had to run the speakers nearly 75ft along a wall, so it was not enough for me.



All in all, you cant beat this for the price (super cheap). It sounds great, the quality of the hardware is very high, and it is a breeze to use. Recommened MUST BUY for any HD audio/video-philes.

The main reason why I swapped out my Harmon Kardon receiver for this one was because the HK has no HDMI ports. Other than that, the HK is an incredible system. I chose the Onkyo over many other receivers because it has an HDMI port in its front face - handy for plugging in a laptop. It seems like this should be common to all new receivers but very few have this feature. One thing I noticed right away when trying out the Onkyo is that you must press two buttons to turn off the receiver - the "receiver" button and then the on/0ff button - a bit of an inconvenience but not the end of the world.



While this receiver does have an incredible array of features (all of which have proven to work very well), I did notice while hooking up all the inputs that there are no 110V switched or unswitched outlets. Every receiver I've had before this one has them and I did use the switched outlet in my Harmon Kardon receiver for providing power to a digital temperature controller. This controller turns on a small fan that is placed behind a plasma TV to push out hot air that accumulates in a cavity behind the TV. It was very convenient having the controller turn on when the old receiver was turned on. I'm not sure why Onkyo omitted the outlets but I know now to look for this feature the next time I search for a receiver.



All in all, this is a very good receiver for the money.

After hooking up two antennas inside my house, I am able to view the local digital TV channels. Sometimes I lose the signal, but I am not sure if that is this box or the antenna placement that is causing the problem. I like that it has an on-sceen guide so that you can see what shows are on in the next hour.
