I looked for months in finding a a surround sound for my small apartment. The patience paid off because the the onkyo hts-3300 was worth every penny. After assembling the speakers I realized that the left and right surround speakers were not working and after calling support center they had me basically reboot it and everything worked. I have had a few friends come over for the NBA playoffs and they are in shock of the sound and price for what I paid for ($329.00, including shipping) through amazon. The lady friends love the quality of the movies and the sound thanks to my ps3 and now Onkyo.The radio is also a surprising quality especially FM, AM needs work but so do every other home theater systems I tried in stores. This is a nice alternative to a large multi-pieced, cluttering speaker system! The audio is good (but dont expect to turn it up real loud!), it's inexpensive, and nice to look at! Considering the price not a bad product, and a great alternative to just the monitor audio.; I wish they would work on getting it to go LOUDER! Oh and also, all the remote control sensors are in the long bar, not the woofer!

Awesome audio from Sonos by S. Van Der Made
I've bought a couple of Sonos devices by now. An ZP120, ZP90 and now the S5. The S5 is again so perfect for what I bought it for. I wanted music in our bedroom, and my Ipod JBL combination was nice, but the S5 beats the Ipod JBL combination hands down. In sound and ease of use.



I would recommend this device to anyone who has a small room that needs music without buying a amp and speakers for that room too.

I have and use the Harmony remote series in my own home and I recommend them to anybody who will listen to me. I have been a remote junkie for audio/video and automation for 15 years, currently there are no 12-step programs for people like myself. The litmus test for any remote is simple, program the unit to manage "Activities" test it thoroughly and hand it over to someone else without saying a word. As soon as they push an activity button and it works without having to pickup a second remote they feel like they have won the lottery. I find that my wife gives me excellent feedback after the initial "not another remote" speech.

Currently the Harmony One is my remote of choice. I don't care how much money you spend on speakers and amps and other components the bottom line is if you can't use your system easily it won't get used.

Yes, I know there are a group of people who need to change aspect ratio, sound parameters, tweak settings and so on while watching a movie or listening to music and this remote might not work for them BUT it will for their visitors, friends, wife, husband, kids, etc.



The other side of the story is that it does take some time to set up the remote through a web interface interview and you may not get it right the first time, so just do it again until it is right.



Just a piece of advice, if you buy a lower model Harmony to begin with you will always wish you had purchased the One.

Good for the price, but I won't be using all of the speakers... by Modern Blue Argonaut
I was updating my family room and this seemed like a really good deal. I already have some excellent JBL and DCM speakers, but I was needing a powered subwoofer and a center channel speaker, so this seemed like a good deal since I could get both of those speakers plus the receiver and iPod dock.



The subwoofer only powers on at a minimum volume level as indicated by it's front light. When it's blue it's on, and when it's red it's off. The volume is also adjustable on the back.



Buyers should note that the backs of the speakers are keyhole mounts rather than standard speaker mounts. I was able to find a few choices of mounting brackets on Amazon though that specified keyhole adapters so be sure to look for that if you are ordering this and plan to mount the speakers to your ceiling. Quite honestly I wouldn't mount the bigger speakers to the ceiling, but I plan to use at least on pair of the surround speakers and at 2.2 lbs each, the weight is light enough for any speaker mount with a keyhole adapter.

The center channel speaker is more than adequate for my needs. It's amazing how much a center channel speaker can cost by itself. The iPod dock doesn't work well if you have a case on your iPod. I wish they had allowed a bit more room so that the case can remain on my iPod when docked.



Surprisingly this set also included speaker wires, which is extremely uncommon if purchasing separate home theater components. The speaker wires were not of great quality, but for ease of use they were color coded which might work well for people setting up their home theater for the first time.



As the other reviewer noted, the Audyssey microphone was not included. Overall, I'm happy with the package and bought it specifically for these four components: receiver, center channel speaker, subwoofer, and iPod dock. The sound quality is just as good if not better than the Sony receiver I'm replacing, and the receiver has plenty of HDMI inputs (4) to keep up with today's video technology.

Sony STR-DH100 Receiver review by Jason Payne
Overall, I find this to be a good product. My other Sony electronics (IE, my Tape Player, my CD player, and speakers) all work well with it.

My only complaint so far is that the bass doesn't sound as full and rich as it did on my old Sony receiver.

I have not tried hooking up a TV or DVD player to it, so I could not tell you how well that works!

If you just want something inexpensive to play your music, i would recommend this product.

I bought this to replace my Sony receiver I purchased from Amazon 3 years ago (almost to the day). While there was nothing "wrong" with my Sony receiver, I quickly realized once I plugged the Onkyo in, that my surround speakers were not being utilized as they should be.



While I am not an audiophile, I do have some quality speakers, and I do like having a quaility sound while watching movies (and playing Xbox). The sound is so clear and crisp with this receiver. Further, the set up with the 4 HDMI inputs made my stereo cabinet so much cleaner, and I got rid of all of my YRW and RBG wires. I am sure I could have invested another $300 and really got some really high end equipment, but honestly, the Onkyo is worth it. The funny thing is, I spent the same amount on the new Onkyo as I did on the old Sony, and the difference is just amazing.



The on-screen set up is great. It makes customizing the inputs and the equilizer so easy. And the speaker test really lets you know what where you need to place you speakers. What else can I say about this product? Honestly, this is the best purchase I have made in a long time. I think the 4 HDMI inputs alone make this a must-have over any other receiver similarly priced. I almost bought another Sony instead of the Onkyo (mostly because I have never purchased anything other than Sony receivers), but I am glad I made the switch. Now that I have experienced Onkyo, I think I have made a life long switch.



If you have any hesitations about buying this product, please feel free to send me a message, and I will try to answer your question before you buy. And if you have never bought an Onkyo before, try it first, and I am pretty sure you will like it (I would almost guarantee it). If not, return it to Amazon. They are really good with returns. But I doubt you will even want to return it once you get it set up.

An excellent buy for starting a 7.1 system by Michael C
I purchased this receiver a few days ago and waited until I ran it through as many set-ups and combinations as I could in order to be as thorough in my review as possible. The STR-DH810 has been able to easily handle everything I've thrown at it through every type of cable imaginable and has only had one flaw that I've noticed: upscaling a composite video signal to 1080p (from a Nintendo 64 in this instance) seems to come with some flicker to the upscaled image, but flicker was solved by changing the resolution to 480p or 1080i. My only fault with the input set-up in the back is that there are no audio inputs that correlate directly with the component video inputs, so when I want to hook up a Wii or Xbox with component cables I have to hook the audio cables up to different inputs. Therefore, I have to have the L/R audio cables plugged into the BD composite audio input and reprogram where the video signal comes from in order to have the video and audio programmed to the same input selection. Because of this I had to do some unconventional reassigning of inputs, but since each input can be named by the user it is simple enough to keep track of.



Programming the remote to work with all of my components was very simple. Everything is working smoothly together, especially by utilizing Bravia Sync with a PS3.



5.1 and 7.1 DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD have been handled perfectly and the 7.1 set-up has given my living room a sound field that I wouldn't have believed. I prefer to calibrate my speakers by my own ear, but using the Auto Cal option to see how well it works was a very pleasant surprise, and trying to fool the mic by placing it in tough spots was harder to do than one would imagine. As long as the environment is quiet during the Auto Cal, then the calibration will do a fantastic job. I preferred to do a few tweaks of my own after the Auto Cal, but for the most part I felt that it was spot on.



This seems to be a fantastic starting receiver for the price, and the only reason I could see to upgrade to the STR-DH1010 would be for HDMI 1.4 support for 3D. If 3D isn't your concern then this receiver is the way to go.

An excellent buy for starting a 7.1 system by Michael C
I purchased this receiver a few days ago and waited until I ran it through as many set-ups and combinations as I could in order to be as thorough in my review as possible. The STR-DH810 has been able to easily handle everything I've thrown at it through every type of cable imaginable and has only had one flaw that I've noticed: upscaling a composite video signal to 1080p (from a Nintendo 64 in this instance) seems to come with some flicker to the upscaled image, but flicker was solved by changing the resolution to 480p or 1080i. My only fault with the input set-up in the back is that there are no audio inputs that correlate directly with the component video inputs, so when I want to hook up a Wii or Xbox with component cables I have to hook the audio cables up to different inputs. Therefore, I have to have the L/R audio cables plugged into the BD composite audio input and reprogram where the video signal comes from in order to have the video and audio programmed to the same input selection. Because of this I had to do some unconventional reassigning of inputs, but since each input can be named by the user it is simple enough to keep track of.



Programming the remote to work with all of my components was very simple. Everything is working smoothly together, especially by utilizing Bravia Sync with a PS3.



5.1 and 7.1 DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD have been handled perfectly and the 7.1 set-up has given my living room a sound field that I wouldn't have believed. I prefer to calibrate my speakers by my own ear, but using the Auto Cal option to see how well it works was a very pleasant surprise, and trying to fool the mic by placing it in tough spots was harder to do than one would imagine. As long as the environment is quiet during the Auto Cal, then the calibration will do a fantastic job. I preferred to do a few tweaks of my own after the Auto Cal, but for the most part I felt that it was spot on.



This seems to be a fantastic starting receiver for the price, and the only reason I could see to upgrade to the STR-DH1010 would be for HDMI 1.4 support for 3D. If 3D isn't your concern then this receiver is the way to go.

Onkyo TX-SR508 by evo
For $350.00, you can't ask for more. The Audyssey 2EQ Acoustic Room Correction is an awesome, Onkyo did a great job implementing this feature in their receiver. No more guess work when it comes to speaker calibration. I was up and running after 10 minutes, it can't get any easier than this.

Outstanding receiver! by William P. Dulmaine
After trying a Denon, and two Yamaha's, I finally hit gold with the Pioneer VSX-820.

This is a superb receiver in all regards. It produces clear crisp sound in all modes.

There are no lip synch issues at all when linked to my HDTV. I had terrible lip synch problems with the Denon. It has all the features I need and more and has an excellent remote that is both intuitive and comprehensive. I use my receiver for CD's, FM radio and my Samsung HDTV. I use DishNetwork for my TV programming.



The VSX series is Pioneer's newest and includes several models all the way up to the 1120.

However, when you read the specs, all these receivers have the same tuner and power plant. The higher the model number, the more numerous the features. But no increase in output.

That makes for an easier buying decision. You don't compromise power for features if you chose a mid range model like the 820 or 920. I noticed that the Denon and Yamaha receivers I tried were made in China. The Pioneers are made in Japan. I'll go with Japan for high quality electronics every time. Pioneer has hit a homerun with this new series of receivers.

Love my new Onkyo 608 by Bob
As others have said, the two 1 star reviews do not review this new Onkyo 608 (makes no sense to me).



Anyway, I absolutely love my new Onkyo 608. I never review stuff, but I wanted to give props to this receiver. I was debating between this one and the new Pioneer 1020. However, I've heard that the amps in the Pioneers don't compare to the amps in the Onkyos. Though I cannot verify the truth of this, I do believe that the amp in the Onkyo is of a very high quality. I have already noticed a tremendous amount of power increase over my previous Yamaha receiver (the model that was included with the Yamaha 390 HTIB). This puts out a lot more sound, and I absolutely love the ability to take advantage of HD audio. I noticed a huge fidelity difference in the compressed Dolby Digital track for Dark Knight and the Dolby True HD. The track was intended to include a lot of bass, and the HD includes all of it. The regular Dolby did not compare. Thus, HD audio is definitely worth having if you own a blu-ray player. Just like video quality (some transfers are better than others; aka reference quality), not all sound tracks will have a huge difference, but to me, it's still worth it. Back to the Onkyo: I love it. There are so many settings that you can tweak. If you like the ability to configure your equipment, you will love this receiver! You can also bi-amp with this receiver, which is nice if you don't have 7 speakers.

When cassette tapes were a standard recording media, I'd send radio shows back and forth to a good friend, Adrian, in England. British radio (particularly R4) was and is astonishing in quality, but at one time was difficult to get state-side ("Stop the Week," no longer extant, was my favorite show).



Of course, the Internet has changed all this--but listening to radio on my computer is an inferior experience to the amazing Squeezebox, which I bought a few months ago, and have since bought two more. And I'll be buying yet another soon (the price fluctuates on Amazon, so I'm waiting for it to drop below $150).



What's so great about the Squeezebox? It works, and well. It looks great, better than almost all countertop radios. It sounds very good for its compact size. It has six preset buttons so you can flip instantly from station to station--even my local PBS station (WNPR 90.5) sounds clearer with this radio. And beyond the presets, you can easily program in "Favorites," stations that interest you from around the world.



I'm not a technician, so there's no point in my attempting to offer that sort of review. I'm just someone who likes varied radio programming worldwide (with the Squeezebox I've discovered a lovely Paris jazz station, a London talk radio station, and even an English language station from Haiti post-earthquake). It's great stuff and the Squeezebox absolutely delivers the goods. It's a tangible product that brings radio joy every day. I guess you know by now, I'm a big fan of this remarkable little box--it's THE NEW RADIO and it's fantastic.
