Surprisingly...acceptable by B. Borgerson
If you're looking for a turntable and cartridge with sound quality sufficiently good so as not to offend the discriminating ear, this is it. Look no further...because you really don't have many choices left below $300 to $400. I bought this to finish out the twilight of my vinyl years when my previous turntable - a Technics SL-BD20 - started running fast. (After 16 years, I forgive it.) I'd upgraded that one to the astonishingly transparent (for $45) AT-331LP cartridge. Does this sound as good? Nope. But it's somewhere in the same ballpark. And the integrated phono preamp is well matched to the cartridge. I'm glad they made it switchable so I could compare to the preamp in my Onkyo receiver, which I knew wasn't very good but I wanted to make sure this one was better. Note that the integrated phono cables are short - under two feet -- if you're going into to a receiver or preamp. Barely made it to my closest input. I suspect that's because they figured most users would add on the included adapter cable for 1/8" jacks. Bottom line: Though it's a step down from my retired rig, it's sonically acceptable and a good value.
