I love me Receiver by Paul C
First off the product came in less then 3 days of me ordering.

I was shocked how fast and pleased with the packaging.



I am not one to understand the complete tech sides of their receivers but I know what was important to me.

1) The HDMI's out.. I am using 5 and wanted more just in cass.

2) The 3 Zones. I am using 2 and will use 3 over the next few months.

3) The video/audio processing. Very happy.

4) The Sound Quality. I am using very good Yamaha/Pro Center speakers (7 speakers and subwoofer) and I am just blown away how great everything sounds. From movies to music and even commercials.



There are many programs (sound choices) to choose from like 2 channel, 7 channel, live(many formats), cathedral(many options) that will get the effect you desire. The decoding choices are really great too. I am a big PS3 player for Call of Duty and it was like a friggon war zone in my family room. When you get shot, you actually get a little scard because of the feeling you get with the sounds going on. It's pretty funny actually.



My only complaint was I had a problem getting my speakers working for about 1/2 hour. I have no idea why. I think the sounds default was not setup to 7 channel and I only had like 3 speakers working at the time. Once I figured out how to get it to 7 channels using the program button I was good to go. I thought at first my wiring was all messed up.. Everything is great now.



I love all the speaker configurations they provide as well as the testing and auto setup options.

I just used my network cable and was able to see like 100 interest music channels which sound really good.

The next step is trying to use the web browser to see what options I can do from there.

My goal is really trying to get the most out of the product over the next few months to justify the cost.

I paid $1400.

The new flagship unit is more refined and user friendly with many of the rough edges ironed out. The osd is a big improvement you can make adjustments on the fly with (on screen display) for audio and video. The older version 5007 for me was freezing up not letting speaker output and you were forced to do resets which involved unplugging unit and thus loose all your previous settings. Not good. This unit is heading in the right direction but I feel still has some catch up to do with how fast things are changing in the AV world and tech in general. I am forced to buy another set top box to handle video because this unit although does have DLNA 1.5 it misses an egregious item and that BIG item is access to video from anywhere stream audio is so yesterday people are demanding video anywhere anytime. Period.



The performance is wonderful quality components and some well needed refinements that were required for a flagship. All in all a good purchase. But I still have to get a set top like Boxee Roku and the like to stream the video.

Once I decided to replace my old sound system with separates, I was determined to make the front speakers the focus. They are perhaps a little much for the room size(11 x 18). They are not "bassy" at all and deliver clean and crisp sound across my listening range and at various volumes. I was not expecting such a fresh sound from my cd's as I was buying them principally for home theater. My friends REALLY like them! Watching concerts on dvd has become a regular passtime when they come to my home.

Over the next year I added a Klipsch C-3 center channel, S-3 surround speakers, RW 10d powered subwoofer and a Yamaha RX-V861 AV receiver. The subwoofer is primarily used for movies.

I would highly recommend these speakers as well as the other Klipsch speakers mentioned above.

Your positive influence was enough to get me to stick my neck out and buy this unit. (I just bought my blu-ray and I didn't understand beforehand that my old AVR would not be compatible for the HD audio.) I say that I stuck my neck out because of my reservation that 65W per channel would be enough to give me the volume I wanted without having to max out the volume control--but it does just fine, even though I would prefer more just in case I would need it for new speakers I might someday buy. And, other than my older, standard DVD player, it's great to have all HDMI cables in and out of my stuff and get rid of some of those other cables--the AVR I was using didn't have HDMI. I gave it 5 stars because I didn't have sufficient reason to give it 3 or 4, and although I have only had it set up for one night, I swear the HD sound is noticably better. Therefore, I think the value of this unit is great for the price. I hope it clears up the dialogue a bit, because on some DVD's, I sometimes have a little trouble understanding the spoken words, and I will occasionally turn on the subtitles. My blu-ray is supposedly able to be adjusted to help with the clarity of the words, as well. The last thing to say is that this thing is apparently the state of the art, so if I would want to upgrade any of my equipment to the latest thing available, my AVR is ready for it. Thanks for the input. I would recommend this unit without reservation, unless you have an upscale speaker system that requires a lot of power.

Great device for home theater, but needs some improvements. by K.
The Grace Digital Radio Tuner delivers on everything it promises. The casing and the LCD display are attractive and inconspicuous, making them blend into your existing home theater nicely. It is a great appliance for integrating your Pandora account into your home theater system, and it offers a vast variety of internet station listings that blow traditional FM radio away.



However, while this device is fun and useful, it has several drawbacks.

First is that the WiFi reception is weak and lacking in quality. Someone who values high-end home theater equipment is probably not going to be impressed with low bit rate audio coming out of their expensive speakers.

The second drawback is that setting up the device to access your Pandora account is not very convenient and requires many steps and many references back to the instruction manual. Then, once it IS set up, the remote control for the device makes it extremely tedious to navigate through the menus and actually use Pandora. And while we're on the subject of the remote, it is not specific enough; it could use several more options and buttons to make it easier to access all of the features this device has to offer.

Third, as this is obviously a device meant to access internet based-radio, you will have to deal with all the usual annoyances of internet radio. Enough said.



Overall, i think it's a great appliance and i'm glad I have it, however it could use some fine tuning. Hopefully a "2nd generation" version will work all of these things out.

Excellent. We purchased about a month ago. We live about 10 miles southeast of town in the Chugach Mountain Foothills about 1000 feet above town. We have outside TV antenna about 30 years old. We DO NOT HAVE CABLE. We are pulling in alot of stations that we have never seen before, and reception is good. ON regular broadcast channel, Like NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, they all come in great. On other channels like CW, ION, etc they come in good except when very windy out. Then signal get distortion, and can't be seen. This converter doesn't have "timer" that you can set to turn off after 2,or 4hours or just leave on. So, we have to just leave it on. Found out that it does have internal timer to turn off, about 4-5 hours. If you do not use converter for 4 hours or so, it will give you message on screen, that it will turn off automatically in 2 min unless you push any (ANY) BUTTON. Once you do, it will reset the timer again for another 4 hours. Timers on any converter will reset to whatever you have it set for each time you use it for either audio, or change channels etc. We are very happy with this one. Also push button on remote are very senative. You don't have to push button 2 (for channel 2) 3 or 4 times before it takes. It takes right away, also have push button up and down to go to next channel, like 2.1, or 32.1; 32.2 and you can remove any that you don't want.

I had been toying with this purchase for quite sometime now and finally pulled the trigger at $138 from Amazon with free shipping. That's about the lowest it's been listed for in the past several months and I am hoping it will again decend to that level so that I can make a Christmas purchase for a son-in-law. I was torn between the Squeezebox Boom and the Internet Radio and I decided to take the plunge with the radio to see if I had a good buying experience there before committing approximately another $100 to buy the Boom. I have to say that I am extremely happy with this purchase and highly recommend the product. I have not encountered any issues causing me to contact Logitech support so I cannot comment on that experience. The setup right out of the box was extremely easy. You have to go online if you want an entire owners manual for this device but the Quick Start instructions provided were just fine. The color screen is excellent and easy to see across the room and when the radio is off, it displays the time and date, reacting to the amount of light by dimming and getting brighter as necessary, pretty cool. If the Boom had the same color screen that the Internet radio does, it would be a very nice improvement to what I understand is a less than cool looking display. The advantage to the Boom is the stereo sound, something found only at the stereo output jack for the headphones on the Internet Radio. The radio does sound superb however, and has a very nice, forward firing speaker that you can crank up to fill a room with sound. There are literally thousands of internet radio feeds out there and I can't think of a better way to access them. I use it for the NPR, Bloomberg, CNN, and Pandora feeds most of the time but the universe of internet radio stations is just astounding. You can search either by station name, country, city, state, or preprogrammed search parameters. I give this product 5 stars and heartily recommend it!!

Skip the HT-s7300. This is a great receiver and sounds amazing when watching videos; however music not so much.



The speakers sound great and the video upscale looks great for all my stuff. Remember that with DVD's though they will never look as good as blu.



I just wish it had more features; no built in HD radio, you have to buy an adapter, no iPod dock, you have to buy that separately.



Another thing I wish Onkyo would have added more than the standard 4 HDMI inputs; and I wish they would stop pre-labeling them on the remote and the controller. I have a PS3, xbox, PC, and DVD player plugged in, and it stinks to have to explain to my wife why the DVD is the DVR and PS3 is on the BD/DVD buttons. Xbox is on games...



Overall I would give this 3 or 4 stars, I was just expecting more, but the quality of the speakers and overall performance for videos is great, and just so you know, COD MW2 is stunning on this system.



I would definitely keep the speakers for future systems but I will look into replacing the receiver in the next year or two.

Very nice speakers for the money. I've been using Klipsch speakers for quite a few years now, and have always been satisfied. Replaced some older floor speakers for surrounds. These actually produce better sound and are wall mountable to save space. They now match my front floor stand speakers. Note that these have a slot for a 16d nail. I used one snap toggle for one speaker and a wood screw for the other.

Also good to note is that I used banana plugs, which extend too far past the terminals (you can remove the top of the terminal to plug in, unscrew for spade types, or just insert speaker wire into holes in the post), so I had to play with the standoff from the wall to make sure it fit right. Other than that, these are great speakers, especially for the price you pay. Would purchase again!

As I write this review, I am listening to my favorite music DVD (Eagles, hell freezes over), and I have the volume cranked to about 70% to match the listening volume of the Yamaha HTR 5790 (50% volume) that this RX-A1000 replaced. The 5790 had 110 watt vs 105 watt per channel for the RX-A1000. It was time to replace my 5790 because I recently purchased a Samsung 8000 series LED TV and wanted to pass 1080p signals from my BluRay player to the TV via the Yamaha receiver. The 5790 did not have any HDMI ports and you can't pass 1080p signals through component cables. The old Yamaha could not process Dolby True HD either. One of the nice features on this new receiver is the ability to pass video and audio to the TV via the HDMI cables even when the receiver is off. How cool is that? We don't always need 735 watts, especially when we are only watching a news channel. Another cool feature is the NET Radio. I connected the RX-1000's LAN jack to my router (via a gigabit switch)and 24 hours later (I could not get it to work imediately), I am listening to 15,000 radio stations. It took 24 hours for the receiver to figure out it was connected to a computer network? I don't understand why it didn't work right away. I checked all my settings over and over and then turned it off when my patience started wearing a little thin. The next day when I turned it on, the NET radio was working. This unit is about a $200 step up from my old receiver, but in my opinion does not match the sound of my older Yahama unit. Gosh, did 5 watts make the difference? Yamaha spent 2 years designing and building the Aventage series from the chassis up. This was not a redesign, (building and improving on an existing chassis), it is a complete new design including the number of feet (5) on the bottom. Well all in all I like this unit, but if I had it to do over, I would have waited a month and bought the RX-A2000. The RX-A2000 has video processing and upscaling that would improve the picture quality of whatever you are jacking into it, as well as 130 watts per channel.

Denon AVR-3311CI by vero_reviewer
I am upgrading this unit from an AVR-3805. The main reason for this upgrade had nothing to do with the quality of sound I was getting from the AVR-3805, but to get additional features. Here were the features I didn't have and was hoping to get on the new unit:

1) Had only DVI with fiber/digital. I wanted to go to all HDMI.

2) IPod function to easily watch iPod clips and listen to music

3) I wanted to listen to Internet radio stations and music services.

4) Wanted to access my F drive on my home computer which has all my music stored on it.

5) I presently was using Zone 2 to drive my outdoor speakers on the 7.0 channel and using Zone 3 to go to a Russound audio bus which has its own amplifier and RCA input. The problem was that the AVR-3805 would only take in analog signals and send out analog. This would require every digial input device that I was using such as the computer, DVR, CD, DVD, Game box to have a digital and analog cable. The new AVR-3311CI Zone 2 and 3 were able to take a digital input and output an analog signal and thus get rid of all the bulky redundant cables.

6) I really wanted HD radio.

7) I also hoping to lower wasted heat that gets stuck in my cabinet even with the fan running.

8) I was also saving 1 or 2 inches in the back as I have a cable heat damming problem and more space will only help.

OK, so here is what I got and my thoughts:

I got rid of all the digital cables and RCA input cables. I upgrade my computer and put in a graphics card that has HDMI out and can also send just music without video (make sure you get this feature or it won't work). Everything worked great on my living room and was able to see and hear music digitally and video. The problem came in when I went to listen to my pool speakers or my russound distributed audio system from zone 1 and zone 2 as nothing came out. After talking with Denon, apparently HDMI digital was NOT the digital they were talking about for the two zone digital converters. They were only talking about fiber and coax. This is very disheartening as it now seems that I have to go back and add fiber back to all my input in addition to HDMI if I want to listen to sound on the two zones. They gave me an explanation, but I believe it was a dumbing down of the digital conversion and could have been done.

I am having a problem with my Iphone working on the IPod input as after 2-8 minutes the buffer starts to drop below 100% and eventually goes to 0% and locks up the Denon IPod input. This does not happen if you plug an actual IPod in, only on the Iphone to play music. Denon didn't take responsibility for the problem and told me to talk with Apple. I do not have this same problem on any my car or at the gym IPod readers. Also the on screen readers is very limited and wish it could be graphically improved.

All the network features are amazing to me and make the computer hook up almost obsolete except for watching YouTube clips. The flash upgrades and setting up on my network computer are great. There is much work to be done on their HTML code for the computer interface.

Except for the zone 2/zone 3 digital conversion and the Iphone losing its buffer, I have no regrets and I am happy with my purchase.

Decent midrange Receiver for the price and quality by Jacob Samuel
Overall I am satisfied with the receiver. It was an upgrade from my Onkyo 607. Did not find a magical difference in video processing. I have connected Panasonic BDP, Verizon FIOS Motorola DVR and Seagate Theater+ via HDMI. It is also connected to home network and together with iControl on iPhone and web control via PC & iPhone is awesome. Though it uses port 8102 for web access, it is not possible to access the web interference via remote access.

As I write this review, I am listening to my favorite music DVD (Eagles, hell freezes over), and I have the volume cranked to about 70% to match the listening volume of the Yamaha HTR 5790 (50% volume) that this RX-A1000 replaced. The 5790 had 110 watt vs 105 watt per channel for the RX-A1000. It was time to replace my 5790 because I recently purchased a Samsung 8000 series LED TV and wanted to pass 1080p signals from my BluRay player to the TV via the Yamaha receiver. The 5790 did not have any HDMI ports and you can't pass 1080p signals through component cables. The old Yamaha could not process Dolby True HD either. One of the nice features on this new receiver is the ability to pass video and audio to the TV via the HDMI cables even when the receiver is off. How cool is that? We don't always need 735 watts, especially when we are only watching a news channel. Another cool feature is the NET Radio. I connected the RX-1000's LAN jack to my router (via a gigabit switch)and 24 hours later (I could not get it to work imediately), I am listening to 15,000 radio stations. It took 24 hours for the receiver to figure out it was connected to a computer network? I don't understand why it didn't work right away. I checked all my settings over and over and then turned it off when my patience started wearing a little thin. The next day when I turned it on, the NET radio was working. This unit is about a $200 step up from my old receiver, but in my opinion does not match the sound of my older Yahama unit. Gosh, did 5 watts make the difference? Yamaha spent 2 years designing and building the Aventage series from the chassis up. This was not a redesign, (building and improving on an existing chassis), it is a complete new design including the number of feet (5) on the bottom. Well all in all I like this unit, but if I had it to do over, I would have waited a month and bought the RX-A2000. The RX-A2000 has video processing and upscaling that would improve the picture quality of whatever you are jacking into it, as well as 130 watts per channel.

We recently purchased a new home theater system (plasma tv,receiver,blueray player) and we have AT&T uverse. We have everything running through the receiver and were able to program the receiver remote to do most of the the functions but it was was frustrating to have to hit receiver on, tv on, cable on. Still we would have to grab one of the other remotes to perform a function.

OMGosh!! We got the Harmony One remote last night. My husband took very little time setting it up. IT IS SO COOL!!!!! You want to watch tv? Touch the watch TV icon and the receiver, tv and uverse box come on. Want to watch a dvd? Touch watch dvd and the receiver changes the input to dvd, the source on the tv changes to dvd, the uverse box turns off and the dvd player comes on!!! AMAZING. ( I honestly can't believe I am this excited over a remote control )

I can't wait to try putting in the favorite channels. Being able to put the channel logo for your favorite channel would be icing on the cake. I really don't care if we don't figure that part out, I just love only having one remote sitting out. I told my mom I may have to buy my dad one of these for Christmas!!

Great remote by BF
Overall, a great product. Super easy to set up and very good customer support. The only negative I would say is that it is priced a fair amount over the Harmony 880 and the only difference, so I can tell, is the IR resender support. But definitely a great remote.

Onkyo replaced my SR607 with this SR608 and WOW by ethanoldude
Late last July, my SX SR607 developed the well-known HDMI failure. Sent the unit, per Onkyo to ABL repair shop in Michigan. To be fair, ABL was very attentive and kept me up-to-date on the progress (or lack there of) regarding my repair. Apparently, the HDMI boards in the 607 have a high failure rate. ABL called me to let me know (Late August) that the replacement boards were on back order and should be in around Sept. 15. I emailed them about Sept. 20 to find out what was going on and they had already returned my unit to Onkyo and arranged for a NEW SR608 to be sent to me. In fact, it was already on the way!



Well, I tell you all, the SR608 sound and performance blows the 607 out of the water!. Every thing about it is remarkably better. Picture, ease of use (once things are programmed correctly) and clarity of sound is much better. Even the Zone 2 sound through my NHT outdoor poolside speakers is much better. My wife, who usually doesn't notice these things, commented on how good the sound was coming from the iTunes music on our Apple TV (through the 608). And it doesn't run hot! Wonder of wonders, an Onkyo that runs lukewarm.



Honestly, I was shocked that Onkyo replaced the unit without me even having to request it and even more shocked that they gave me the newer and better model. When my Panasonic plasma died two weeks after the warranty expired, they said, "Sorry, Charlie". Only my AMEX extended warranty saved the day for me.



Are there better A/V receivers for the money? I don't know. But I do know I love this unit. The real test will be if it lasts longer than the 607 did (died after 15 months, but still in warranty).
